Profits Come in Many Ways

Profit comes in many ways for construction contractors and accountants.

Although it is only three words long, the name of our construction-centric accounting firm, The Profit Constructors, says a lot. We make “profit” a first concern for our clients because, well, let’s face it, if you’re not making a profit, then you’re just spinning your wheels.

Would it surprise you to know that we believe that not all profit must come in the form of cash? Well, read on to see how we placed nonmonetary profit front and center by Boldly Going to Scaling New Heights 2024.

This year, our founder and Construction Accounting Guru, Tonya Schulte, was joined by Leslie King, our Quality Assurance Manager in Orlando, Florida, for several days of profitable adventure.

Nonmonetary Profits

Profits can refer to your bankroll, money, bread, cash, dough, or stuff. Profits can also be about your resources, knowledge, insight, awareness, and relationships.

Leslie and Tonya were seeking nonmonetary profits in three specific areas this year. They are:

  1. Learning from others.

  2. Cultivating professional relationships.

  3. Sharing, teaching, and guiding peers and associates.

Uncountable Profits

Yeah, I know, we’re accounting professionals, we count things. But sometimes, the “things” that are profitable are priceless and infeasible to count. Here, look at some things Tonya and Leslie had to say about their experience at SNH24. See if you can spot how what they have to say falls into the “three specific areas” mentioned above.

Tonya: “Leslie and I were able to share our journey towards growth (both in numbers and knowledge) with several other firm owners. It has felt amazing to pay it forward.”

Leslie: “I attended a session by Michelle Mitchell, founder of Mitchell Consulting, about delegating. She pointed out that if you correct your team members’ work, you’re not helping them. You are hurting them by robbing them of the opportunity to improve their skills or learn something new.”

Tonya: “Vince from Knowify and I were able to work together in person on a client’s customer support issue.”

Leslie: “I was reminded that as our team’s skills and knowledge base grow, so will our ability to help our clients more effectively.”

Tonya: “Several people have been telling me how they are already putting into practice things they learned in the session I taught titled Crafting the Perfect Pitch – Tailoring Consultations to Showcase Your Service Menu.

Tonya: “The highlight of attending Scaling New Heights 2024 has been seeing Vin again for the first time in seven years.”

Tonya said this about this highlight: “Seven years ago, Knowify invited me to Orlando for an event called Scaling New Heights and to speak about their product. With some trepidation but inspired by their confidence in me, I said yes. I learned the most brilliant things from the most caring people. Since then, I have bought a ticket for every SNH.

That first year, I met Vin. Although Vin and I have talked nearly weekly for seven years, we haven’t seen each other in person since then. What a treat it has been to spend the past three days reconnecting with him and hanging with the other Knowify team members.

Thank you, Knowify and Woodard, for literally changing the course of my life and the life of my firm. I love how everything came full circle here at Scaling New Heights 2024!”
